Are you passionate about making a positive impact on how people travel? Do you have a good understanding of strategic multi-user active travel routes for walking, wheeling, cycling and horse riding for leisure and everyday journeys?

Derbyshire County Council is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to support and be at the forefront of this high-profile area of work within the Sustainable Travel Team. You will play a key role in delivering safe, active travel routes such as Key Cycle Networks and Active Travel Masterplans in close partnership with a range of different stakeholders and organisations.  You will support route delivery and essential maintenance as well as helping to secure funding from external grants as well as through land use development to support our ambitious plans to expand the network to encourage more active travel through walking, wheeling and cycling.

You will be responsible for the overall design of the scheme, ensuring that it delivered within the available budget and expected timescales.

Key aspects of this role also include:

  • Liaising and negotiating with key professionals, agencies and stakeholders, including landowners to successfully manage and deliver these projects, ensuring that relevant consents and permissions are secured.
  • Developing and managing wide ranging community and stakeholder engagement.
  • Ensuring the resources dedicated to the project are allocated appropriately and delivered within the available budget and timescales, and success monitored and evaluated effectively.

What skills/experience will you need?

  • Substantial experience and expertise in an Active Travel, Rights of Way or relevant field.
  • Ability to work autonomously and within a team to plan, organise and control work-based activities.
  • Good communication skills with Public, Elected Members and other departments / external agencies.
  • Experience of securing external funding opportunities and business case preparation.

Applicants must have either a degree or Post Graduate qualification in a related discipline or an alternative qualification, plus substantial relevant and practical experience.
