The working pattern is 31 hours 30 minutes across 5 days (Monday to Thursday 8.35am - 3.35pm and Friday 8.35am - 2.35pm to include a 30-minute unpaid lunch break each day).

We are an over-subscribed 11-18 mixed Academy with excellent pupil behaviour and outcomes.  Our most recent OFSTED inspection (June 2024) found the school to be Outstanding in all categories and more recently the Sunday Times Schools Guide 2026 named St Mary’s as the Comprehensive School of the Year East Midlands.

Candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • A good level of numeracy and literacy with 5 GCSEs Grade 4 or above including English and Mathematics.
  • The ability to form good relationships with pupils, staff and parents/carers as well as empathy and commitment to the pupils you will support.
  • Patience with the ability to remain calm in challenging situations.
  • An understanding of confidentiality issues and data protections.
  • Excellent communication and organisational skills.

Previous experience within a similar role would be desirable, however, it is not essential.

We are particularly keen to reflect the diverse nature of our student community in our staff; we welcome applications from all qualified applicants and strongly believe that diversity in all its forms delivers greater impact to our whole school community.

Potential candidates would be most welcome to visit or have an informal telephone conversation prior to applying and if you would like to do so, please contact the Headteacher’s PA, Mrs Rachel Gilding.

Application packs may be downloaded from the school’s website www.st-maryshigh.derbyshire.sch.uk or alternatively please telephone Mrs R Gilding, Headteacher’s PA on 01246 201191 (ext 2011) or e-mail rgilding@stmaryschesterfield.org.uk.

Applications must be made using the school’s application form – CVs are not accepted.

Please ensure your application is completed and returned no later than 10.00am on the Closing Date.

Please note that applications will be considered as they are received and we reserve the right to close this position before the date specified above. We therefore urge candidates to apply as soon as possible.
