Derbyshire County Council is seeking a talented and driven individual to lead our Sustainable Travel team in developing and implementing sustainable transport policies and strategies, helping to lead the way towards a healthy and integrated transport future for our community.

You will play a key role in the development and submission of local transport planning documents and their progress reports and for associated monitoring, ensuring the approval of all documents by appropriate decision-making bodies.

Key aspects of this role also include:

  • To ensure the ongoing delivery of the Council’s Sustainable Travel programmes in line with corporate and Council objectives. This will include introducing new and innovative programmes such as Transport Hubs.
  • To ensure the ongoing delivery of the County’s Key Cycle and Local Cycle Networks are maintained in line with the Local Cycling and Walking Infrastructure Plan and Derbyshire Cycle Plan.
  • To ensure effective consideration of sustainable travel issues are included in land-use planning and in the decisions of DCC and other organisations.

What skills/experience will you need?

  • Demonstrable managerial experience in a directly related field.
  • You will bring with you the ability to manage, plan and programme own work and that of others.
  • You’ll also have excellent written and oral communication skills, as well an ability to engage well with stakeholders.
  • Either a degree or post graduate qualification in transportation planning or a related subject, or equivalent in a relevant discipline or comparable qualification/experience.
  • Ability to develop creative, innovative, and practical solutions to sustainable travel issues.
