Senior Technician (Bus Information & Data) – Local Bus Team

Derbyshire County Council has an exciting opportunity for a Transport Senior Technician to join our Local Bus Team at a time of ongoing transformation and as we continue our Bus Service Improvement Plan journey.

This role is a fantastic opportunity for an experienced passenger transport professional to join our Information & Ticketing Team to provide strategic and operational support to our wider Local Bus Team.

Reporting to the Senior Transport Officer, you’ll be working closely with a wide range of partners, both internal and external, including our bus operators, suppliers, and contractors and as part of our various stakeholder boards and forums.

Key aspects of this role include:

- Ongoing monitoring of the local bus network; both commercial services and Derbyshire County Council contracted services.

- Assist with the compilation and delivery of timetable data for the Traveline public transport route planner service, and other ticketing software and initiatives.

- Oversee the administration of bus service registrations received by the County Council.

- Maintain the County Council’s on-street and on-line publicity and information services. Including ticketing promotions and marketing campaigns.

- Work with the Bus Service Improvement Plan (BSIP) team, Senior Managers, staff in departments across the Council, and Enhanced Partnership (EP) Board Members to support and facilitate the successful delivery of the Council’s BSIP.

- provide financial updates and budgetary support to colleagues and Senior Officers.

What skills/experience will you need?

- Experience of passenger transport services, from a strategic and/or operational delivery aspect. - Knowledge and understanding of both statutory and regulatory aspects of passenger transport operations.

- Knowledge of public transport funding initiatives including sustainable transport projects.

Knowledge of budgetary management and monitoring.

- Commercial awareness of bus industry costs, revenues and promotional opportunities

- Project and programme management skills.

- The drive and determination to ‘make a difference’ for the people of Derbyshire.

PLEASE NOTE: The position of Senior Technician – Bus Information and Data, Local Bus Team, will transfer to, and be employed by the East Midlands Combined County Authority (EMCCA) by the end of March 2026. This role will be part of the TUPE process, and the successful applicant will be involved in the consultation procedures with EMCCA’s HR representatives.
