Derbyshire County Council’s Strategic Transport Team is looking for a proactive and enthusiastic Assistant Technician to support the planning and delivery of a range of exciting transport schemes that promote sustainable travel, accessibility, and better connectivity for our communities.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone early in their career or with relevant technical experience to contribute to the development and implementation of transport improvements across the county.

Key aspects of this role also include:

  • Assist in the planning, design, and delivery of integrated transport schemes.
  • Support data collection, mapping, and technical analysis to inform scheme development.
  • Prepare plans, drawings, and documentation to support project delivery and funding bids.
  • Liaise with internal teams and external partners to ensure smooth project coordination.
  • Contribute to the delivery of safe, inclusive, and sustainable transport infrastructure.

What skills/experience will you need?

  • A keen interest in transport planning, highways, or civil engineering.
  • Analytical and technically minded.
  • Strong IT, organisational, and communication skills.
  • Experience in using GIS or CAD software (desirable but not essential).
  • A commitment to delivering excellent public services.
  • A flexible and positive approach to problem solving and learning within a team.
