Are you looking to take your next step in the automotive industry? We are seeking a proactive, committed, and ambitious individual to join our dynamic Transport team as a Career-Graded Mechanic. This is a fantastic opportunity for someone eager to build on their existing qualifications and ultimately become a certified MOT tester and HGV mechanic, all within a positive and supportive working environment.

About the Role

In this permanent position, you will work 37 hours per week (Monday to Friday) at our fantastic workshop facility. The role is career-graded and offers a structured pathway toward achieving respected industry qualifications. The successful candidate will be experienced across all aspects of light vehicle repairs, contributing to the maintenance and safety of our diverse Council fleet, including vehicles, plant, and equipment. Heavy vehicle repair knowledge is advantageous. 

Your Development Journey

  • Comprehensive training provided to achieve new levels of knowledge, tailored to the successful candidate.
  • Support to obtain the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency (DVSA) MOT Testing qualification.
  • Opportunities for continual professional development through industry courses and hands-on experience. 

The Ideal Candidate

  • Proactive, positive, and able to demonstrate genuine knowledge and interest in the vehicle industry.
  • Organised and methodical, with a keen eye for detail and excellent practical skills in mechanics.
  • Already holds some relevant qualifications in vehicle maintenance or mechanical engineering and is committed to further learning and development.
  • Keen to attend training and courses that will expand your knowledge, skills, and certifications, with a focus on progressing into heavy vehicle maintenance and MOT testing.
  • Willing to work as part of a supportive team, contributing ideas and collaborating to maintain the highest standards of safety and service for our fleet.
  • Class 2 HGV licence although not essential.
