Swanwick School & Sports College is an ‘Outstanding’ school providing an exciting and relevant education for young people with additional needs including Moderate and Severe Learning needs, Challenging Behaviour and ASD.

The Governors are looking for an exceptional Classroom Practitioner who will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality PE and a rich programme of enrichment across the school. 

We are looking to recruit a well-qualified and enthusiastic practitioner to lead our PE and Enrichment faculty across the school setting. The faculty lead will play a significant role, under the line management of a member of the senior leadership team, in establishing the aims and objectives of the faculty to reflect the ethos of the school and in implementing appropriate policies and procedures to ensure these objectives are achieved.

The successful candidate will also oversee the teaching of PE and Enrichment by other SSSC staff.

Whilst PE will form the majority of the teaching commitment, we are also interested in staff who are able to teach English, Maths and potentially ICT. 

Although this position will primarily involve teaching pupils of secondary age, applications from both primary and secondary practitioners are welcomed. 

The successful candidate will be someone who can create and deliver stimulating lessons, have excellent assessment for learning strategies and know how to support pupils’ next steps in learning. The successful applicant will also promote the school ethos through high levels of expectation, excellent behaviour management skills, being an adaptable team player and able to encourage pupil independence. 

The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to use ICT in an innovative and imaginative manner throughout the curriculum.

The successful candidate will:

  • The successful candidate will be a positive, proactive and reflective practitioner, confident in working within a special school setting. They will take a lead role in PE, champion enrichment opportunities, and support a curriculum that is engaging, inclusive and responsive to pupils’ needs
  • Be passionate about supporting young people to help them remove barriers to learning
  • Be able to build effective and supportive relationships with pupils, parents, carers and other agencies in order to secure the best life chances for our pupils
  • Be organised, proactive and creative in developing successful intervention strategies for vulnerable pupils
  • Be someone who can create and deliver stimulating lessons, have excellent assessment for learning strategies and know how to support pupils’ next steps in learning
  • Able to promote the school ethos through high levels of expectation, excellent behaviour management skills, being an adaptable team player and able to encourage pupil independence
  • Be able to demonstrate the ability to use ICT in an innovative and imaginative manner throughout the curriculum.
  • Have a clear understanding of thematic curriculum delivery

We invite applications from both Early Career Teachers and more experienced teachers. Although the post involves working with key stage 3/4 pupils, we invite primary trained staff to apply due to the curriculum provided.
