Guided by our motto 'Everyone is different, Everyone is special', we celebrate individuality and strive to create a nurturing environment where every child feels seen, heard and valued. We are looking for a passionate and dedicated Inclusion Lead who shares our commitment to equity, kindness and opportunity for all. This is a fantastic opportunity for either an experienced or aspiring SENDCO who is ready to take the next step in their professional development.

Whaley Thorns is a school on an ambitious journey of improvement, and we are looking for someone who shares our commitment to inclusive education and believes in the potential of every child. You will be working with a driven and supportive team, playing a key role in leading SEND and inclusion across the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the strategic development of SEND provision, ensuring a clear vision and direction for inclusive practice.
  • Oversee the identification, assessment, and review of pupils with SEND, maintaining and updating the school’s SEND register and provision map.
  • Coordinate and chair EHCP reviews, Learning Plan meetings, and multi-agency support plans.
  • Support class teachers and teaching assistants with effective strategies, interventions, and differentiation to meet individual pupil needs.
  • Provide coaching and CPD to staff on inclusive practice, adaptive teaching, and behaviour for learning.
  • Develop and implement systems to track and monitor progress of SEND and vulnerable pupils.
  • Work closely with external partners including Educational Psychologists, SALT, Early Help, and Behaviour Support.
  • Champion the needs of vulnerable pupils ensuring inclusion extends beyond SEND.
  • Ensure that the school meets all statutory requirements relating to SEND and Inclusion.
  • Contribute to whole-school improvement planning.

Who Should Apply?

We welcome applications from:

  • Current SENDCOs seeking to gain experience in a new setting and contribute to school improvement.
  • Aspiring SENDCOs who are ready to step into a leadership role with the support through mentoring.

What You’ll Gain:

  • The chance to lead and shape a key area of school improvement.
  • Valuable leadership experience, development and training opportunities within the school and TEAM Education Trust.
  • Hands-on involvement in multi-agency working and strategic planning.
