The Village Federation are seeking to appoint a new Head of School for Brassington Primary School, a small village school with 55 pupils.

This role is a rare opportunity for an aspiring leader or for a teacher who wants to remain in the classroom whilst also having leadership responsibilities through managing the day-to-day running of the school.

The Village Federation has a unique set-up whereby the Head of School role is similar to the traditional small-school teaching head model, but where the Executive Headteacher maintains responsibility for governance, administration, budgeting and many other aspects of running the school. This means that the Head of School can focus on teaching, learning and all the things that are directly to do with the children, including working with parents and carers as the face of the school.

The successful candidate will have a maximum of 4 days teaching commitment within the school, with a day of release time for management and PPA. They will be part of a wider senior-leadership team with three other Heads of School, a Federation SENCO, Business Manager and the Executive Headteacher. The starting point on the salary range is negotiable for candidates who may already have leadership experience or an existing salary within the range.

We offer first class CPD and support with career progression in our flexible, happy and dedicated team. We are also very proud that three of our schools are Church of England Schools and it is important that all applicants feel able to support that tradition and the ethos of a Church School.

The successful candidate will be invited to start as soon as they are available (preferably September 2026) and the appropriate checks can be made.

The Village Federation offers an excellent working environment where talent is nurtured, work-life balance is valued and everyone is determined to create a happy and successful environment for children and adults alike. Visits to the school are welcomed and if you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact the Executive Headteacher, Peter Johnston, via email at headteacher@thevillagefederation.co.uk

Provisional Interview Date: 16 or 17 June 2026

Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided.
