This is an exciting opportunity to join the Public Health Knowledge and Intelligence Team at Derbyshire County Council. You will play a key role in improving population health and reducing health inequalities across Derbyshire.

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic professional with excellent communication skills and expertise in applying epidemiological and statistical methods. You will help shape public health priorities and decision-making by providing evidence on population health needs, trends and inequalities.

You will join a supportive and experienced team with a strong reputation for delivering high-quality public health evidence and insight that inform decision-making across the local system. Our work includes health needs assessments, health equity audits, health impact assessments, evaluation and research. You will analyse and interpret complex data, critically appraise evidence, and translate findings into clear, actionable insights that influence policy, strategy and service development.

You will lead and contribute to significant epidemiological, research and evaluation workstreams, provide technical guidance and support to colleagues, and work collaboratively with partners to improve outcomes for the people of Derbyshire. You will play a key role in embedding research and evidence-based practice across local government. The role will involve working collaboratively with council services to identify research priorities, assess existing evidence, and support the development of new research activities that address local challenges and community needs. This includes securing external funding by supporting research grant applications, building research capability among staff through training and mentorship, and promoting the use of robust research methods throughout the organisation. If you are passionate about public health, research and using evidence to drive meaningful change, we would welcome your application.

Applicants are strongly advised to use the criteria in the person specification as sub-headings in their application to clearly demonstrate how they meet each of the selection criteria. Please also refer to the job profile for competencies and a general overview of the role.
