This is an exciting time to join Chesterfield Borough Council as we seek to recruit a sweeper driver to become part of our environmental services team.
Working as part of a dedicated front-line service, you will play a key role in maintaining the cleanliness and appearance of the borough's streets, footpaths and public spaces. The successful candidate will be responsible for operating mechanical road sweepers on public highways, footways and other Council-maintained land, making a proactive and positive contribution to the development, reputation and commercialisation of the service.
Duties will include operating mechanical sweepers, carrying out daily vehicle checks, reporting defects, undertaking basic vehicle cleaning and maintenance activities, and ensuring all work is completed safely and in accordance with relevant health and safety procedures. You will be expected to work independently and as part of a wider operational team, maintaining high standards of service delivery and customer care.
The role involves working outdoors in all weather conditions and requires a flexible approach to working hours. weekend and bank holiday working will be required on a rota basis.
Normal working hours are based on the following shift pattern:
- morning shift: 4.00am to 12.00pm
- afternoon shift: 12.00pm to 8.00pm
These shifts form part of a weekly rota and it is therefore essential that successful candidates can work flexibly to meet the needs of the service.
Applicants must hold an appropriate driving licence relevant to the vehicles operated and possess a valid driver CPC qualification, or be willing to obtain and maintain one. Experience of operating mechanical road sweepers or similar specialist vehicles would be advantageous, but not essential.
The successful candidate may also be required to undertake a medical assessment and driving licence check prior to appointment.
