Are you passionate about driving service improvement, environmental sustainability and commercial growth? South Derbyshire District Council is looking for an Account Manager (Client Team Officer) to play a key role in shaping and developing our Waste and Recycling Services.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead on the development and management of the Council's Trade Waste Service, support major service transformation projects, drive recycling initiatives and use performance data to influence decision-making and improve service delivery. You will act as the Council's lead officer for Trade Waste Services, managing commercial waste contracts, developing customer relationships, supporting income generation and ensuring compliance with statutory and contractual requirements. You will also lead on waste and recycling performance reporting, including the submission of statutory returns to central government and other regulatory bodies. Working closely with operational teams, contractors, partner organisations and businesses, you will help deliver innovative and efficient services that support the Council's environmental ambitions and strategic priorities.
What you'll do
- Lead the development, management and growth of the Council's Trade Waste Service
- Manage and develop commercial waste contracts and customer accounts
- Lead waste and recycling policy development and implementation
- Coordinate projects and service improvement initiatives to deliver operational efficiencies and service transformation
- Monitor, analyse and report service performance data, including statutory submissions to central government
- Develop and maintain performance indicators aligned with the Council Plan and service objectives
- Support operational waste and recycling teams to deliver efficient, high-quality services
- Work with businesses, residents and stakeholders to increase recycling participation and reduce environmental impacts
- Provide specialist advice and management information to support strategic decision-making
- Identify opportunities for income generation, service enhancement and continuous improvement
What we're looking for
- Experience in project management, service development or contract management
- Strong analytical skills with the ability to interpret performance and financial data
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills
- Experience of managing multiple priorities and delivering service improvements
- A passion for environmental sustainability, recycling and waste minimisation
- Commercial awareness and an understanding of customer-focused service delivery
- The ability to influence change and work collaboratively across teams and organisations
- Someone who shares and actively supports the Council's values and commitment to excellent customer service
