Are you a strong communicator who knows how to turn complex information into clear, engaging content? Do you enjoy finding different ways to reach people, understand what matters to them and make sure their voices are heard?
We’re looking for a Communications and Engagement Officer to join our Communications and Performance team at Amber Valley Borough Council.
This is a varied role with the opportunity to work across the full range of council services. One day you might be developing a communications campaign or responding to a media enquiry, and the next you could be planning a public consultation, creating social media content or analysing feedback to help shape a service.
You’ll create content for a range of digital and traditional channels, support media relations and internal communications, and help plan and deliver campaigns that inform residents and encourage positive behaviour change.
Engagement is an important part of the role too. You’ll help us make sure we’re not just communicating with our communities but listening to them. You’ll support consultations, surveys, focus groups and engagement activities, turning what people tell us into clear insight and recommendations.
You’ll also help monitor media, social media and public feedback, spot emerging issues and support our response to urgent situations, including emergency and crisis communications.
We’re looking for someone with excellent written and verbal communication skills who can adapt their approach for different audiences. You’ll be organised, comfortable managing competing priorities and able to build positive relationships with colleagues, councillors, residents, partners and other stakeholders.
You’ll already have experience of producing communications content and using a range of communications channels. You’ll also need experience of supporting consultation or engagement activity and be comfortable working with feedback, information and data to identify themes and present findings clearly.
You’ll have sound judgement and an understanding of the political and organisational environment in which councils operate, with an awareness of the sensitivities involved in communicating on behalf of a local authority.
In return, you’ll join a small team where you’ll have the opportunity to work on a wide range of projects, develop your skills and make a visible contribution to how the Council communicates and engages with the communities it serves.
In addition, we can offer:
Flexible Working Hours
Pension Scheme
Free on-site parking
Personal and professional development opportunities
Opportunities to make a difference
