Chesterfield Borough Council is looking for enthusiastic and customer-focused individuals to join our Private Sector Housing Team. 

This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in delivering housing assistance and Disabled Facilities Grants, helping vulnerable residents access the adaptations and improvements they need to maintain their independence.

About the role

As a Private Sector Housing Technical Officer, you will work directly with homeowners, private tenants, contractors and partner organisations to deliver a range of housing improvement initiatives. You will manage a varied caseload and support residents through the entire grant process, from initial assessment through to project completion. 

Your responsibilities will include:

  • managing Disabled Facilities Grant applications
  • undertaking means-tested financial assessments
  • recommending grants and loans for approval
  • monitoring works on site and authorising payments
  • supporting the delivery of housing assistance programmes, including essential home repairs and energy efficiency improvements
  • visiting residents in their homes to assess needs and identify suitable solutions
  • working collaboratively with contractors, occupational therapists and partner agencies to ensure projects are delivered to a high standard and within agreed timescales 

About you

  • have excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • enjoy working directly with customers and building positive relationships
  • can manage a varied workload and work independently
  • have strong attention to detail and problem-solving abilities

  • hold a valid driving licence and have access to a vehicle for business use
