Derbyshire County Council Highway Materials Laboratory has a vacancy for two enthusiastic technically minded individuals who are collaborative in working well with others within the Laboratory and our colleagues in Derbyshire County Council.
The principle work of the highways laboratory, comprises the testing of materials used in the construction and maintenance of the County’s 5,300km highway network, which includes Asphalt, Aggregates, Soils, Concrete and Road Markings.
Applicants will need to demonstrate excellent staff management and communication skills, both written and verbal and be reliable / flexible, as weekend and night work may be required.
Capability to carry out sampling and testing of highway materials is essential along with the ability to interpret and produce accurate technical reports for our clients (internally and externally).
Knowledge of laboratory equipment calibration and maintenance is desirable along with principles, techniques and procedures associated with highway maintenance and construction works.
Supporting, overseeing, managing and training Laboratory Technicians over a range of diverse projects, that includes our Asphalt Resurfacing, Pavement Investigations and Surface Dressing programmes.
Working from our UKAS Accredited Highways Laboratory in Ambergate, you will be required to travel across the County visiting road construction and civil engineering sites and quarries as work demands.
A UK Full Driving Manual Gearbox Licence is required.
