We are looking for Project chargehands to lead teams working on highway maintenance and construction projects, across Derbyshire.

You’ll be on site supervisor for teams and subcontractors, allocating work, selecting the appropriate approach for the conditions, and ensuring specifications, budgetary constraints and quality standards are met.  You’ll be responsible for managing construction sites, and controlling and directing safe site operations, including devising and implementing safe systems of work and undertaking and reviewing risk assessments. The ability to ensure good relationships with, and the safety of, the public, employees, clients and contractors is essential, minimising disruption to travel as much as possible.

You’ll also be part of a mandatory rota to deliver adverse weather and emergency services and winter maintenance (gritting and snow clearing), outside normal working hours, for which you’ll received additional payment.

We’d like to hear from you if you have :

  • A full driving licence LGV C, G
  • Experience in a supervisory role and the ability to manage, motivate, train and develop a team
  • Experience in Highways maintenance and construction services, including winter maintenance and adverse weather activities.
  • The full range of construction skills including drainage, road resurfacing, manhole construction, kerbing works, fencing, flag and block laying, structural concreting, and patching
  • Knowledge of the current highways and bridgeworks specifications, national contract conditions, and statutory regulations
