Role Overview:
As a Maintenance Chargehand, you will lead a team responsible for highway and related construction sites. Your primary focus will be on reactive maintenance activities, ensuring adherence to performance and quality standards while fostering positive relationships with the public. You will also play a crucial role in emergency response services and winter maintenance operations.
Key Responsibilities:
Leadership: Supervise and manage a team, providing guidance and support to ensure efficient workflow and adherence to safety protocols.
Maintenance Management: Organise and manage reactive maintenance work, handling highway-related emergencies competently and safely.
Quality Assurance: Ensure work meets specification and quality standards, conducting necessary checks and assessments.
Safety Compliance: Uphold Construction (Design and Management) Regulations 2015, implementing safe systems of work and site safety measures.
Traffic Control: Plan and implement traffic control measures to minimise disruptions and ensure safe traffic flow.
Resource Optimisation: Assess site conditions to determine optimal construction techniques and resource utilisation.
Training and Development: Train and mentor staff, supporting qualification training and skill development.
Emergency Response: Participate in emergency response services and Adverse weather operations on a mandatory rota basis.
Requirements:
- In-depth knowledge of statutory regulations including the Highways Act and Health and Safety legislation.
- Proficiency in road traffic regulations, EU, and UK driver regulations.
- Strong communication skills with the ability to interact effectively with stakeholders.
- Previous experience in a leadership role within highway construction or maintenance.
- Flexibility to work outside normal hours as required for emergency response and winter maintenance.
