Starting Date - As Soon As Possible

The opportunity has arisen for a Library Assistant and Sixth Form Study Supervisor within our library department.

Highfields is a vibrant and popular school with approximately 1300 students, including 200 in our sixth form.  Our students are friendly and highly motivated.

Highfields are proud to be a part of East Midlands Education Trust (EMET), a partnership of schools whose mission is to raise the educational standards and improve the life chances of all the children within our Trust.  Our schools are high performing schools who represent the full age range of 3-19, along with an alternative education provider, and we place great emphasis on collaborative working across the Trust within a family of schools approach. Our schools enjoy a high degree of ‘aligned autonomy’ whilst, at the same time, they are supported by a central trust team who help ensure our schools provide the highest quality of provision possible.

The library is a busy part of a school and is used by all year groups but particularly sixth form students.

To start as soon as possible, we are looking for an outstanding practitioner. The successful candidate will be resourceful, inspirational and forward thinking. You will share our vision of achieving excellence.

We wish to appoint a colleague to this post who has:

  • The ability to inspire and motivate students and colleagues to achieve their best
  • Highly effective interpersonal, communication and leadership skills
  • A commitment to professional development
  • A commitment to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people

Highfields is situated in Matlock, the county town of Derbyshire, on the south eastern edge of the beautiful Peak District National Park. It is within easy reach of Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham.

On the application form, please focus on a detailed 'supporting statement' taking into account the person specification and indicating why you would be the best person for us to recruit to this position.

If you would like further information and require an informal conversation or visit, please telephone or email our school office via 01629 584020 or info@highfields.derbyshire.sch.uk

To apply, please visit the Trust website at www.emet.uk.com/vacancies and complete the online application form.

The successful candidate will have to meet the requirements of the person specification in order to be offered the post, will be required to undergo a full enhanced DBS check and must be eligible to work in the UK. The Trust is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Safeguarding checks will be undertaken during the recruitment process and this may include online searches.

We welcome applications regardless of age, gender, ethnicity or religion.

Closing date for applications is 12:00PM on Sunday 30th November 2025.

Interviews to be held shortly after the closing date.

Due to this post having access to children and/or vulnerable adults, the successful candidate will be required to undertake a Disclosure and Barring Service check. The possession of a criminal record will not necessarily prevent an applicant from obtaining this post, as all cases are judged individually according to the nature of the role and information provided. Click here to see our policy on criminal background checks.

This is an Internal vacancy and is only available to employees of Derbyshire County Council, including temporary and relief employees and agency workers engaged by the Council. Employees specifically identified as ‘individually at risk’ of redundancy have priority interview status, and employees on pay protection have guaranteed interview status, for vacancies at the same grade or below. When applying for jobs please note that it is your responsibility to ensure that this status clearly stated on your application form. Please ask your manager if you are unsure of your status. School based employees who fall under the responsibility of the Governing body of an LA School are only able to apply for these posts if they are subject to notices of redundancy issued by the relevant school
