The Role

We are looking for 7 Conservation Works Officers to help us deliver the work of the award-winning Moors for the Future Partnership as we move into our second year of a funded 5-year moorland restoration programme.

Working as part of a well-established and professional team you will deliver restoration plans and land management solutions for the regions degraded upland blanket bogs. There will be both desk-based and field work, with the emphasis on surveying sites then developing and delivering conservation projects, working alongside partners and managing specialist contractors. There will be a need to travel extensively throughout the Peak District and South Pennines, especially the upland moors in the Calderdale area of West Yorkshire.

This is a fixed term role for 2 years with the potential to be expanded.

About You

You will be computer literate, have knowledge of GIS systems and an HND in an environmental or related subject, or equivalent, with at least 2 years’ countryside management experience or similar land-based work. You will be comfortable working in remote upland areas and have good navigational and hill craft skills. You will need to be capable of leading on projects without close supervision, with experience of land management for nature conservation and wider ecosystem services, preferably within the uplands of the UK. You will have great communication skills as your work will involve supervising contractors, engaging with key stakeholders, partner organisations, land owners and land managers (such as farmers and gamekeepers) as well as voluntary organizations, and volunteer groups.

In return, we can offer you the opportunity of making a real difference to the beautiful landscapes of the South Pennine uplands, working as part of a friendly, experienced and focused team. When not linked to a specific site or work area, you will be based at the Moorland Centre, in the beautiful village of Edale, minutes from the Pennine Way.
