Chesterfield Borough Council is seeking a dedicated and proactive caretaker supervisor to join our cultural venues team. This is an exciting opportunity to play a key role in maintaining some of the town’s most valued public buildings, including the Winding Wheel Theatre and 1435 (Theatre and Museum).
About the role
As the caretaker supervisor, you will lead and coordinate the caretaking service across our venues, ensuring that each building is safe, secure, and presented to the highest standard for staff, performers, and visitors.
Your responsibilities will include:
- supervising and supporting the caretaking team across multiple sites
- ensuring the security and general upkeep of all buildings
- overseeing cleaning standards, minor maintenance tasks, and room setups
- monitoring building condition and reporting issues promptly
- working closely with venue management to support day‑to‑day operations
- ensuring health and safety procedures are followed at all times
Our venues operate seven days a week, including some Bank Holidays, so a flexible approach to working hours is essential. Shift patterns will vary depending on operational needs, events, and programming.
About you
We are looking for someone who:
- has previous experience in caretaking or building maintenance
- has proven supervisory or team‑leading experience
- is reliable, organised, and able to work independently
- takes pride in maintaining high standards of presentation and safety
- can adapt to changing priorities in a busy, customer‑focused environment
If you are enthusiastic, hands‑on, and committed to supporting the smooth running of our cultural venues, we would love to hear from you.
