An exciting opportunity has arisen to join the coronial team at Derby Coroner’s Court as a Court Usher.

We are seeking a flexible, professional, and compassionate individual who is committed to providing excellent support to court users during what can often be difficult and sensitive proceedings.

The Court Usher is a key public-facing role, responsible for supervising court attendees, supporting the Coroner, and ensuring the smooth and efficient running of inquests. This position requires excellent communication and organisational skills, alongside the ability to remain calm and effective in a high-pressure environment.

As the first point of contact for individuals attending hearings, you will:

  • Welcome and assist court users.
  • Organise seating, refreshments, and court documentation.
  • Support the orderly running of hearings.
  • Act on direction from the Coroner and Coroner’s Officer to ensure proceedings run efficiently.

 

About You

The successful candidate will demonstrate:

  • Strong IT skills.
  • The resilience to manage exposure to sensitive and potentially distressing information.
  • Excellent communication skills, with confidence in handling challenging situations.
  • Strong organisational abilities, including prioritisation and effective planning.

Provisional Interview Date: Week commencing 27th July 2026
