We have an exciting opportunity for a Business Services Assistant to join our One Council Business Services function, supporting key Public Health services that directly contribute to the safety and wellbeing of Derbyshire residents.

This varied and rewarding role will primarily support the operational delivery of the School Crossing Patrol service and Healthy Workplaces Derbyshire, providing essential administrative support within a fast-paced and high-profile environment.

What’s involved?
You will play a vital role in ensuring the smooth and efficient running of the School Crossing Patrol service, which operates across 105 sites and employs approximately 120 staff, as well as supporting the delivery of Healthy Workplaces Derbyshire.

The role requires a high level of accuracy, organisation and resilience to manage multiple processes in a safety-critical service, alongside working collaboratively with colleagues, schools, and stakeholders.

Key tasks include:

School Crossing Patrol Service

  • Providing comprehensive administrative support across all 105 patrol sites and 120 staff
  • Supporting recruitment, onboarding, training administration, and absence monitoring processes
  • Maintaining accurate and robust records to support a safety-critical service and ensure compliance with national guidelines
  • Coordinating uniform ordering, distribution, and tracking to ensure patrols meet legal requirements
  • Supporting the management of agreements with schools, ensuring accuracy and efficient processing
  • Handling enquiries from the public, elected members, and supporting responses to FOI requests
  • Assisting community supervisors with administrative tasks to support service delivery

Healthy Workplaces Derbyshire

  • Managing health check consumables, including stock control and ordering
  • Coordinating weekly stock deliveries
  • Supporting the production and distribution of the quarterly newsletter
  • Maintaining and updating central contact lists
  • Ordering resources and managing print requests
  • Booking meetings and coordinating logistics for the team

What we’re looking for:

  • Experience in an administrative or business support role
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities
  • Excellent attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in record-keeping
  • Confidence using IT systems and managing data
  • Good communication skills, with the ability to work with a range of stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Vocational/NVQ qualification (or equivalent) or relevant experience
