Somercotes Infant School and Somerlea Park Junior School are looking to appoint a dedicated, compassionate and pro-active SENCo to join our team. This is a key role supporting pupils and families across both schools, helping to ensure every child receives the education they deserve through SEND Adaptations and quality first teaching. (SPJTE4) 

The post is primarily based at Somerlea Park Juniors with 0.8 teaching commitment in a Key Stage 2 class. 

There is a minimum full day release to fulfil the SENCo role as described in the job description and person specification.

We are looking for a SENCo that can maintain and build upon the successes of the here and now, whilst having the vision, enthusiasm and talent to seek out new opportunities for continuing to drive school improvement forward at Somerlea Park into the future. 

Somerlea Park currently has around 140 children, from Year Three through to Year Six, with varying levels of need and attainment. When leaving the school, the majority of pupils transfer to Swanwick Hall School. Somerlea Park was rated ‘Good’ by Ofsted in the last inspection in 2022. The school provides a broad and varied curriculum, offering all children rich opportunities to enjoy learning and achieve to the very best of their abilities. The school is about to begin a transformation, with the commencement of a new school building. The school works closely with its feeder school, Somercotes Infants’ which is located a short distance away, sharing subject leadership and SENCo roles.

The school is part of the Learners’ Trust, which is a medium-sized MAT comprising of seventeen primary schools, one special school, over three-thousand five-hundred children and spanning the three Local Authority regions of Rotherham, Derbyshire and Derby City. The successful candidate will benefit from peer-to-peer support, access to the SENCo network and support structures that the Trust facilitates within schools, across schools and through the strong links it has with external partners, most notably through the Learners First School’s Partnership.
