Job Summary

Sawley Junior School is seeking to appoint a passionate and committed class teacher to join our vibrant Year 4 team from January 2026. This is a full-time maternity cover position within a well-established and supportive phase. The role is unsuitable for Early Career Teachers (ECTs).

There is also the potential for subject leadership responsibility, depending on experience and interest.

We are proud to be part of the ONE Academy Trust, a family of schools united by shared values of respect, inclusivity, and continuous improvement. At Sawley, our ethos—Aspire… Achieve… Thrive—captures our belief that children should be encouraged to dream big, work hard, and find joy and pride in their learning.

We believe in creating an inclusive environment where every child feels seen, supported, and celebrated. This year, we are proud to be part of the DCC PINS Project this year, which focuses on supporting neurodiversity and embedding inclusive practices across our school.

Why Join Sawley Junior School?

  • A nurturing and inclusive environment where every child is valued and supported to flourish.
  • A curriculum that is broad, balanced, and designed to inspire curiosity and independence.
  • A strong and collaborative staff team committed to high standards and continuous development.
  • Opportunities for professional growth through high-quality CPD and Trust-wide collaboration.
  • Staff wellbeing is a priority: we offer access to comprehensive wellbeing support through the Schools Advisory Service, including mental health resources, counselling, physiotherapy, and leadership coaching.
  • As part of the One Academy Trust, we benefit from shared expertise, collaborative learning, and a commitment to excellence across a family of schools.

We Are Looking for Someone Who:

  • Is passionate about teaching and making a difference in children’s lives.
  • Has excellent communication, interpersonal and organisational skills.
  • Works effectively as part of a team and contributes positively to school life.
  • Is enthusiastic, professional, and committed to continuous improvement.
  • Shares our belief in inclusive education and values every child’s uniqueness.

Your Core Duties Will Include:

  • Being an excellent classroom practitioner who strives to be the best they can be.
  • Contributing positively to the year group and wider school team.
  • Supporting our mission to develop confident, respectful, resilient learners ready for life beyond school.

Sawley Junior School is committed to the safeguarding and promoting the wellbeing of children and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. Appointments to any post are subject to comprehensive pre-employment checks including an enhanced DBS (including a children’s barred list) check. A start date for successful job applicants will not be confirmed until clearance from all of the safeguarding checks has been obtained. In line with Keeping Children Safe in Education recommendations, an online check will be carried out on shortlisted candidates as part of our due diligence.

The job role you are applying for falls within the provisions of the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act 1974 (Exceptions) Order 1975 (2013 and 2020) which requires you to disclose all unspent and spent convictions and cautions except those which are ‘protected’ under Police Act 1997 – Part V and the amendments to the Exceptions Order 1975 (2013 and 2020).
