The Role
We are looking for a Senior Communications Officer to join our team to help us to devise and deliver an innovative communications programme to support the landscape scale peatland conservation work of https://www.moorsforthefuture.org.uk/ across the Peak District and South Pennines. This is a fixed term post until 30 September 2026. In the role you will be part of a team delivering face to face public engagement with local communities, a digital programme including social media across multiple platforms, you will be writing and publishing articles and press releases, organising group site visits to moorland locations, as well as supporting our partners and organising events.
The post is mainly Monday to Friday, however some evening and weekend work is required as part of the engagement programme. A full driving licence is required, which will include driving company vehicles and our touring ‘bog in a van’, the Bogtastic Van.
In return, we can offer you the opportunity of making a real difference to the South Pennine uplands, working as part of a friendly and focused team. You will be based at the Moorland Centre, in the beautiful village of Edale, minutes from the Pennine Way.
About You
We’re looking for someone with a proven track record of working in an engagement and communications role. You will need a high standard of written and verbal communication skills, and the ability to influence different audiences; good organisational and time management skills, the ability to prioritise and work under own initiative; and will need to be willing and able to drive the Bogtastic Van to and from events. Some knowledge of conservation and access to the countryside and the interaction between recreation, land management and conservation is desirable. Some weekend working is required – time off in lieu will be given. You will be able to proactively drive projects, input ideas and have great relationship management skills.
The role is varied and requires flexibility and willingness to take on new challenges.
