Derbyshire County Council is seeking a Head of Property Maintenance to lead our Property Maintenance functions, overseeing the implementation of Asset Management and Property Maintenance strategies and supporting the Assistant Director (Property Management) in operational and strategic management ensuring the development and delivery of effective, efficient, and responsive property maintenance to meet the needs of the council, its users, and the people of Derbyshire.

 As Head of Property Maintenance, you'll be at the forefront of our mission to ensure the Council's land and buildings portfolio is fit for purpose, safe, compliant, and cost-effective, supporting service departments in delivering their mandates efficiently.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead on the development and manage the delivery of an efficient property repairs and maintenance service to internal and external clients, ensuring the Council maintains statutory compliance while delivering the Council’s political, strategic, and operational business priorities.
  • Provide ambitious leadership to the Property Maintenance Team including Operational Delivery, Surveying, Health & Safety and Cost Planning, ensuring that the necessary skill and competency levels are in place, developed or acquired.
  • Act as a lead expert in Property Maintenance, provide specialist advice and guidance to the Council and lead professionals to ensure an effective service and innovative solutions.
  • Spearhead strategic and operational Property Maintenance initiatives that set the standard for excellence.
  • Develop and lead the strategic direction for Property Maintenance services aligned to corporate goals and objectives by reviewing and implementing the Property Maintenance Strategy for Property.
  • Forge partnerships with internal and external stakeholders to drive innovation and deliver effective, efficient property maintenance.

Experience and skills required:

  • A natural leader who inspires others to exceed expectations and embrace change with experience in senior roles within a multi-disciplinary Property Services department and a track record of success and innovation.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide strategic corporate advice on property maintenance and drive service improvements in a complex environment.
  • Proven experience in budget management, resource allocation, and stakeholder engagement, with a focus on delivering efficient and effective services.
  • In-depth understanding of legislation, regulations, and best practices in property maintenance and management, coupled with knowledge of national and local government developments.
  • Excellent financial management skills and a commitment to continuous personal and professional development.

 Qualifications:

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant field.
  • Evidence of ongoing management and personal development.
  • A commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, ensuring you stay at the cutting edge of your field.
