Bolsover District Council is a dynamic and ambitious organisation that takes pride in delivering excellent services to our community whilst driving economic growth and environmental sustainability for the district.

We are looking to recruit an enthusiastic and experienced professional to work as its Legal Services Manager and Deputy Monitoring Officer. The role will involve leading a small team of lawyers and managing a caseload with a particular bias towards civil and criminal litigation, licensing and anti-social behaviour. The Deputy Monitoring Officer role will involve supporting the Monitoring Officer including assisting in the management of code of conduct complaints.

You will be required to work closely with clients from across the Council and its wholly owned companies together with its councillors.

To be successful you will need:

  • Admission as a Solicitor of the Supreme Court or Admission as a Barrister
  • Advanced theoretical, practical and procedural knowledge of the legislation that applies directly to local government and which can be applied to local government.
  • Proven practical post qualification experience as a Solicitor/ Barrister dealing with the specialist legal work of a District Council including the ability to work with employees, members, the public and stakeholders.
  • Proven practical experience of working with a local authority’s Monitoring Officer
