Lead Digital Development Team Manager – Digital Development Team

As we continue to expand our digital capabilities, we are seeking a Lead Digital Development Team Manager to oversee the development Team, provide strategic technical leadership, and drive the adoption of cutting-edge digital technologies, including Microsoft Power Platform and open-source technologies.
This role is perfect for a skilled and experienced leader who can balance hands-on technical expertise with strong team management and strategic guidance. You must be a great communicator and an effective trouble-shooter, who has experience of working closely with stakeholders to understand their needs. You’ll be able to navigate changing priorities, break down explanations of complex processes and communicate cross-functionally with people from different levels of technical expertise within the organisation.
Key Responsibilities:
Team & Workload Management
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Digital Developers, fostering a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement.
- Prioritise and manage the team’s workload, ensuring projects are delivered on time, within scope and aligned with business objectives.
- Ensure best practices in software development, testing and deployment are consistently applied across all projects
Technical Leadership & Strategy
- Provide expert technical leadership in digital development, driving best practices and innovation across platforms.
- Work closely with Digital Services and departmental stakeholders to align digital development with broader strategic objectives.
- Assess and implement new technologies to enhance service delivery, efficiency, and user experience.
Power Platform & Custom Development
- Utilise Microsoft Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Power BI) to develop and support custom business applications.
- Customise and extend existing Power Platform applications, ensuring seamless integration with other enterprise systems.
- Oversee the development of bespoke digital solutions tailored to business needs, including automation and workflow improvements.
Open-Source & CMS Solutions
- Support and guide the use of open-source technologies for scalable and cost-effective digital development.
- Provide technical expertise and oversight on CMS platforms such as Drupal, WordPress, or SharePoint.
Technical Support & Continuous Improvement
- Act as a technical escalation point for the team, providing hands-on troubleshooting and resolution of complex issues.
- Drive a culture of continuous improvement by regularly reviewing processes, identifying areas for optimisation, and implementing best practices.
Skills and Experience:
We’re looking for a motivated and technically skilled individual with:
- Team Leadership: Proven experience leading a mentoring a development team, with strong people management and workload prioritisation skills.
- Technical knowledge: Knowledge of modern programming languages (JavaScript, Python, .NET and frameworks).
- Power Platform: Experience in developing and managing solutions using Power Apps, Power Automate and Power BI.
- Open-Source & CMS knowledge: Familiarity of open-source technologies and CMS platforms such as Drupal would be an advantage.
- Strategic thinking: Ability to align digital development with business goals and drive digital transformation initiatives.
- Problem-solving & Technical Support: Strong analytical skills with a proactive approach to troubleshooting and issue resolution.
- Collaboration & Stakeholder Management: Excellent communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively with technical teams, business stakeholders and external partners.
