Derbyshire County Council Highways Technical Services has a vacancy for an enthusiastic technically minded individual based at the laboratory carrying out laboratory and site testing.

The principle work of the Technical services highways laboratory, comprises the testing of materials used in the construction and maintenance of the County’s 5,300km highway network including bituminous mixtures, aggregates, concrete, soils, emulsions and road markings.

Successful applicants will need to demonstrate good communication skills, both written and verbal and be reliable / flexible, as weekend and night work will be required. Applicants should be capable of carrying out practical, physical tasks involving heavy lifting to instructions and procedures, plus maintaining legible accurate records.

Capability to carry out sampling and testing of highway materials is desirable along with Microsoft Excel and Word, but training will be given if required.

Working from our UKAS (ISO17025) Accredited Highways Laboratory in Ambergate, you will be required to travel across the County and surrounding counties visiting road construction and civil engineering depots, sites, quarries and asphalt plants as work demands.

A UK Full Driving Manual Gearbox Licence is required and towing experience is desirable.
