Design Smarter Transport Solutions: Senior Engineer – Traffic Signals
Are you ready to lead the design and delivery of innovative traffic signal systems? We’re looking for an experienced Senior Engineer to provide technical leadership and project management for traffic signal infrastructure across Derbyshire.
This is a key role ensuring all schemes meet the highest standards of safety, reliability, and energy efficiency. You’ll champion sustainable design, integrate smart technologies, and contribute to climate resilience while delivering projects on time and within budget.
Key Responsibilities
• Lead the end-to-end design, delivery, and commissioning of traffic signal projects.
• Ensure compliance with TSRGD, DMRB, MCHW, BS 7671, and IET Wiring Regulations.
• Develop MOVA datasets, controller configurations, and operational manuals.
• Conduct feasibility studies, site surveys, and post-installation reviews.
• Prepare detailed technical specifications, cost estimates, and risk assessments.
• Supervise and mentor junior staff, fostering technical excellence and collaboration.
• Manage budgets and fee proposals, ensuring financial control and value for money.
• Integrate Intelligent Transport Systems and adaptive signal control technologies.
• Liaise with contractors, suppliers, and stakeholders to ensure safe and efficient delivery.
About You
• Extensive experience in the design and delivery of traffic signal infrastructure projects.
• Strong leadership skills with experience supervising technical staff.
• Comprehensive knowledge of traffic signal systems, ITS integration, and CDM regulations.
• Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
• Ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality outcomes under pressure.
Essential Qualifications and Experience
• Relevant professional qualification (e.g., HNC/HND in Civil or Electrical Engineering).
• Extensive experience in traffic signal design and commissioning.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects from concept to completion.
Desirable
• Membership of a relevant professional institution (IHE, CIHT, IET).
• Project management qualifications (PRINCE2, APM).
• Industry-specific certifications (e.g., HERS/ECS card holder).
• City & Guilds 2382 IET Wiring Regulations or equivalent.
