This is an exciting opportunity to oversee maintenance, installation, and inspection programmes for street lighting, traffic signals, and Intelligent Transport Systems (ITS). You’ll champion safety, optimise resources, and drive continuous improvement while ensuring compliance with statutory obligations and industry standards.

• Act as the principal technical advisor on highway electrical systems, ensuring compliance with BS 7671 and other standards.
• Oversee out-of-hours emergency response for electrical faults and incidents.
• Manage works programming, resource allocation, and coordination with other highway activities.
• Ensure health, safety, quality, and environmental performance across all operations.
• Conduct audits, inspections, and incident reviews to embed best practice.
• Maintain strong relationships with supply chain partners, DNOs, and other stakeholders.
• Deputise for the Highway Operations Manager in strategic forums and partnership meetings.

About You
• Proven experience in a supervisory or leadership role within street lighting or highway electrical services.
• Strong technical knowledge of electrical legislation, codes of practice, and compliance standards.
• Excellent understanding of health and safety regulations, including CDM and G39.
• Ability to lead and motivate teams, manage multiple priorities, and deliver under pressure.
• Skilled in interpreting technical drawings and translating them into operational plans.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
• Relevant electrical qualification (e.g., City & Guilds 2365 Level 3, NVQ Level 3 Electrotechnical, HND/HNC in Electrical Engineering).
• City & Guilds 2382 IET Wiring Regulations or equivalent.
• Experience managing electrical works in a live highway environment.

Desirable

• City & Guilds 2391 Inspection and Testing.
• Management or leadership training (e.g., ILM Level 3).
• G39 Authorisation and IOSH Managing Safely.
• Previous HERS Registration.
