About the Roles
We are recruiting multiple Senior Finance Business Partners to join our high-performing Finance team at Derbyshire County Council. These strategic roles offer the opportunity to work across a range of service areas, including Adult Social Care & Health, Children’s Services, Place, and Corporate Services & Transformation providing expert financial leadership and driving transformation.

As a Senior Finance Business Partner, you will lead a specialist finance function, deliver strategic financial advice, and support the Council’s Medium Term Financial Strategy. You’ll work closely with Executive Directors, senior managers, and elected members to ensure financial planning, reporting, and control are robust, responsive, and aligned with Council priorities.

Key Responsibilities
•    Lead and manage a finance team, embedding a performance-driven culture.
•    Act as the key financial adviser to senior leadership within your designated service area.
•    Deliver strategic financial planning, reporting, and control, including oversight of revenue and capital budgets.
•    Drive improvements in financial literacy and budget management across the organisation.
•    Lead on the development of financial models, policies, and systems to support decision-making.
•    Ensure compliance with statutory and regulatory requirements, including VAT, Treasury Management, and capital accounting.
•    Contribute to the Council’s strategic planning and service transformation.
Lead with Purpose – What You’ll Bring
•    Substantial post-qualification experience in finance within a large, complex organisation.
•    Proven success in leading teams, managing complex projects, and delivering strategic outcomes.
•    Strong ability to communicate financial information to non-specialists and influence senior decision-makers.
•    Excellent analytical, project management, and financial modelling skills.
•    Political awareness and the ability to operate effectively in a dynamic public sector environment.

Essential Qualifications and Experience
•    Full CCAB (or equivalent) qualification.
•    Evidence of continuous professional development.
•    Experience in financial planning, reporting, and compliance.
•    Ability to manage risk, influence outcomes, and deliver value for money.
Desirable
•    Experience working in local government or a political environment.
•    Knowledge of local authority finance and statutory reporting requirements.
•    Experience in business partnering and transformational change.
