As a Technical Officer you will work with our Environmental professionals investigating a wide variety of environmental issues which have an effect on the health and wellbeing of our communities. You will take enforcement action when necessary to prevent pollution and deal with criminal offences.

You will work as part of a wider Environmental Health service, across both the North East Derbyshire and Bolsover District Council areas.

A typical day may include:

  • investigating complaints about noise nuisance from a pub or club affecting nearby residents,
  • assisting an Environmental Health Officer investigating or arranging the clean up of a widespread pollution incident,
  • inspecting industrial and commercial businesses to prevent harmful pollution or helping to develop publicity campaigns on issues we’re dealing with

You will also work with our partners at the Environment Agency, Derbyshire County Council and Derbyshire Police, Planning Officers and our Licensing Team to resolve issues together, share intelligence or support their work.  It’s a varied and exciting role.

While previous enforcement experience and environmental protection qualifications may be helpful, they are not necessary to succeed in this role.  An interest in protecting the environment and our communities, a willingness and ability to undertake additional training, excellent customer care and IT skills and the ability to communicate effectively will help you succeed.  You will need a full driving licence and access to a vehicle for work purposes.

As you progress you will be provided technical environmental protection training to help us ensure we have an effective and skilled team, but also) to help you progress.
