The Governors of Swanwick School & Sports College are looking to recruit an excellent candidate who will run our Creative Explorers provision delivering effective, pupil centred and evidence-based outdoor learning opportunities for the pupils at SSSC. This role will consist of delivering small group work across both pathways as well as bespoke one to one lessons for identified pupils who require an alternative curriculum.
The Creative Explorer role will encourage independence, responsibility, collaboration, appreciation and respect for nature. At SSSC we want our pupils to face new challenges, overcome obstacles and celebrate who we are as individuals through a creative and bespoke curriculum that might include elements of Forest Schools and other outdoor learning experiences where pupils can develop their creativity.
The successful candidate will deliver a range of exciting experiences that not only support our curriculum but also support the holistic development of our pupils in an outdoor setting appropriate to their developmental stage within a special school setting.
SSSC is a special school with 97 places for pupils aged 5 -16 with a variety of needs including learning needs, ASD, physical needs and social & emotional needs.
The successful candidate will work under the guidance of teacher / senior staff and within an agreed system of supervision, to implement agreed schemes of work with individuals/groups and may also include, assisting with the general care, mobility and personal hygiene needs of pupils.
The successful candidate may also be required to support in the school during short-term absence of other staff managing behaviour and assisting pupils to undertake set activities
- Be experienced in working with young people in a school or other relevant setting
- Be proactive, positive, calm and flexible
- Be organised, proactive and creative in developing the Creative Explorers provision
- Be able to complete safe and well checks on identified pupils as and when required.

The role offers a great deal of variety with ample opportunity for the post holder to use their own initiative whilst being supported by the Creative Arts Faculty Lead and Senior Leadership Team. The ability to work as part of a team is essential, as are excellent interpersonal and organisational skills, a sound knowledge of IT and an ability to prioritise workload.
As this post involves a great deal of contact with pupils, staff, visitors and parents / carers, it is important that candidates possess excellent communication skills; maintaining confidentiality at all times will be essential.
