Candidates must possess the necessary right to work authorisation to enable them to work for Chesterfield Borough Council. Regrettably, we are unable to provide sponsorship or assume sponsorship of an employment visa at this juncture.

Do you want to play a vital role in delivering Chesterfield’s ambitions to build a stronger economy that provides quality jobs for local people?

Chesterfield is a great place to live, work, visit and invest, but also has significant ambitions for the future of its communities. The council has made, and continues to make, major investments in economic infrastructure and regeneration.

Within the economic growth service, the joint growth unit are responsible for a diverse range of largely capital schemes, all of which support the council’s ambitious growth strategy, focusing on delivering environmentally sustainable growth that benefits local people.

Currently, our team are revitalising the heart of Chesterfield, delivering a new pavilion building and improved public realm in Staveley, and building an innovative, rail research and development centre in Barrow Hill. We also have an extensive pipeline of projects in development, from helping the council meet its climate change ambitions through decarbonisation and energy generation, to developing Chesterfield’s town centre through visitor attractions and town centre living.

As a project manager within the team, you will be responsible for delivering projects which support our economic growth ambitions across the borough. The role will be to lead on projects from inception to completion, throughout all stages of the project management lifecycle.

This is a diverse role in a busy team and the applicant will need to have the ability to work on multiple, complex schemes at the same time. You will lead multi-disciplinary teams of colleagues from across the council, as well as public and private sector partners and commissioned consultants, to design, develop and deliver capital projects. You will need to be able to organise your own workload, monitor significant budgets, and have excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Although previous Local Government experience in a similar role may be an advantage, it is by no means essential - we would encourage someone with a private sector background to apply to this position as well.
