Hurst Farm Regeneration Ltd (Wild Works) is a Community Benefit Society working for the benefit of residents on the Hurst Farm estate, Matlock.
We are in the final year of delivering the Hurst Farm Heritage Trail project funded by The National Lottery Heritage Fund (Heritage Fund) alongside Derbyshire Dales District Council.
The project has completed the upgrade of woodland footpaths, the installation of new information boards and an app-based trail celebrating the natural environment, local history and community voices. The trail connects key heritage and community sites including the Farmer’s Community Garden - a key focal point for volunteering and activities.
Wild Works is responsible for an ‘Activity Plan’ which underpins these physical improvements, which focuses on environmental sustainability, wellbeing, skills development and inclusive volunteering and engagement. So far the programme includes woodland activities such as tree planting, coppicing, surveying and dead hedging alongside our Ranger team and Dry Stone Walling, woodland crafts and community growing at the Farmers Community Garden and an Oral History project.
During 2026 Wild Works will be moving into a new phase and generating income to develop the future of the organisation alongside completing the Activity Plan for the Heritage Fund project by the end of September 2026.
