We are looking for a qualified social worker to join our team to support foster carers for Derbyshire County Council in High Peak area of the County. This is a full time position (37 hours per week).  The successful candidate will have excellent skills and experience of working with foster carers and children in care.

We are looking for applicants who will be committed to partnership working with carers and other colleagues to ensure children in Derbyshire are encouraged to be the best they can be. The post is based at High Peak (Buxton) although there is some flexibility to work from home.

Responsible to: Fostering Team Manager

Purpose of the Job:

  • To provide support and supervise Foster Carers

Main Duties:

  • To undertake statutory foster carer home visits
  • To prepare reports for Foster panel reviews
  • To supervise Foster carers and support them with their development through training opportunities
  • To provide support to the Fostering Team Manager
  • To provide social work supervision and support to foster carers, individually and collectively through providing guidance, advice, training, support groups etc.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals, groups/agencies
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Organisational –To effectively manage their own caseload and the ability to take responsibility for planning and managing an individual workload
  • Comprehensive assessment skills
  • Ability to reflect on own practice and development
  • Ability to travel, as required, between Departmental service outlets throughout the County.
  • Ability to work flexibly across teams or function

Additional Requirements

This post falls within the flexible working scheme.  However it is an expectation that some dutes will require working some evenings and the occasional weekend.  This work will be claimed back as TOIL.
