Family Help Consultant

Help shape the future of early help in Derbyshire

Are you passionate about helping children, young people and families get the right support at the right time?

This is an exciting opportunity to join Derbyshire’s Family Help service at a key point of change. We are looking for confident, skilled and relationship-focused professionals who can help strengthen early intervention across our partnership system.

As a Family Help Consultant, you will not be working in isolation - you will be out in the system, building relationships, influencing practice and helping partners feel confident to support families earlier and more effectively.

We currently have three Family Help Consultant vacancies across Derbyshire localities, Amber Valley, Chesterfield, Erewash, High Peak/North Dales, North East/Bolsover and South Derbyshire/South Dales.

Families do best when help is joined-up, timely and easy to access. In this role, you will help make that happen.

You will work alongside schools, health colleagues, voluntary and community sector partners and children’s services colleagues to strengthen early help, improve outcomes and reduce the need for families to escalate into statutory services.

This is a role for someone who enjoys working with people, making connections, solving problems and influencing change. You will be a trusted source of advice, guidance and challenge for partner agencies, helping them navigate early help, safeguarding thresholds and local support pathways.

What you’ll be doing

You will:

• provide clear, practical advice and guidance to professionals across partner agencies
• build strong local relationships with schools, health services, voluntary sector partners and wider children’s services
• support partners to identify needs earlier and respond confidently
• promote the importance of early intervention and family help
• facilitate multi-agency working and strengthen local networks
• deliver training, briefings and workforce development
• use data, local knowledge and partner feedback to identify gaps and improve services
• help develop a clear directory of early intervention support for families and professionals

What we’re looking for

We are looking for people who can bring energy, credibility and confidence to the role.

You may come from education, health, children’s services, early help, youth support, family support, safeguarding, the voluntary sector or another relevant partnership background. What matters most is that you understand the importance of early help and can work confidently with others to improve practice.

You will need to be someone who:

• builds relationships quickly and works well with different agencies
• understands early help, safeguarding and thresholds
• can offer constructive advice, support and challenge
• communicates clearly and confidently
• is comfortable delivering presentations, briefings or training
• can use insight, information and data to support improvement
• is organised, flexible and committed to improving outcomes for children and families
