We are looking for motivated, hardworking and committed individuals to take part in our Apprenticeship Programme, which is based around Landscape Maintenance. 

You will undergo a programme working alongside experienced team members to gain experience in all aspects of grounds maintenance duties.  Activities will include grass cutting, shrub bed maintenance and general grounds maintenance duties including working in our Green Flag Award winning parks, cemeteries and local nature reserves using a wide variety of tools, machinery and equipment. 

You will learn how to identify different types of plants and the importance of health and safety. 

The ideal candidate will be reliable and self-motivated with a flexible approach.  A proactive and positive attitude is essential.  Apprentices will carry out a work based NVQ Level 2 in Horticulture as part of the Apprenticeship Programme and will be required to attend a local college for formal training sessions with the opportunity to gain additional qualifications in first aid and the Safe Handing and Application of Pesticides. 

If you have: 

4 GCSE’s at Grade A – D (or equivalent) and are flexible, adaptable and able to work with minimal supervision, then this opportunity could be for you.  A full UK Driving Licence will be required within the first 3 months of employment, but if you already have a Driving Licence this will be an advantage. 

The hours of work are Monday to Friday (37 hours per week – annualised). 

These posts are currently based at the Council’s depot at Heanor.
