Environmental Health Technical Officer

Job Details and Requirements

This is an excellent opportunity to join the successful Joint Environmental Health Service which delivers services across the rural districts of both Bolsover and North East Derbyshire District Councils. The districts are an ideal place to live, work and visit and are situated between the Peak District National Park and Sherwood Forest and have excellent access to the M1 motorway network with ease of access to Sheffield, Derby and Nottingham.

The post is based within the Housing and Public Health Team of the Joint Environmental Health Service.

This Environmental Health Technical Officer role covers duties around private sector housing, HMO Licensing, domestic noise and other nuisance complaints, public health matters such as drainage, destitute funerals, filthy and verminous premises, gypsies and travellers.  Ideally you will have recent experience of undertaking housing inspections, investigating domestic nuisance complaints and associated enforcement activities including the preparation of reports, notices and evidence gathering.

We are looking for an experienced Technical Officer, a good communicator and proficient at organising your own workload.  We would also welcome applicants from a housing or property services background who have an interest in or knowledge of housing inspections, HHSRS, tenancy support and are looking for a varied and challenging career.

The role will be based between home working and at North East Derbyshire District Council offices but with a need to travel throughout the districts of both Bolsover and North East Derbyshire with equipment, so you will also need a valid UK driving licence and access to a car or suitable mode of transport.

Why work for us?

North East Derbyshire District Council is a dynamic and ambitious organisation and a great place to work. If you join our team, you will become part of a talented and dedicated workforce who take pride in delivering excellent services to our community whilst driving economic growth and environmental sustainability for our districts.  If you are keen to make a difference to people’s lives and develop your skills and experience, we would like to hear from you.

In return for your commitment, we can offer you a supportive working environment and personal development opportunities. We are able to offer flexible working hours and hybrid (agile) working, 29 days annual leave rising to 34 days (pro rata) after 5 years, 8 bank holidays, Christmas closedown and flexi-time with up to 2 flexi days per month able to be taken plus free car parking.

We offer a competitive salary, Local Government Pension Scheme, payment of relevant professional subscriptions, as mentioned a generous annual leave entitlement and excellent work/life balance initiatives.  Learn more about the benefits of working for us at: www.ne-derbyshire.gov.uk
