Flexible working

Part time Working

We are keen to increase the opportunities for people who want to work fewer than full time hours at all levels of the organisation. We welcome applications from people who want to work part-time, including for jobs which are advertised as full-time. There are a number of ways in which this can be facilitated so if this applies to you, please discuss the options with the recruiting managers.

Unpaid Leave

You may ask for unpaid leave for a block period and request deductions at, say, one day a month to spread the cost over several months. Reasons for taking unpaid leave might include domestic responsibilities, your wish to take an extended holiday or ensuring childcare during school holidays etc. If a request for unpaid leave is refused, the manager/supervisor will give written reasons. Deductions from pay will normally be agreed before the period of unpaid leave is taken. We will consider each request on its own merit and subject to the needs of the service.

Flexi-time Scheme

Some jobs are suitable for flexitime working, which means you can have some flexibility in when you work your hours. This must not impact on the needs of the job and when you work flexibly, there must be adequate cover for your absence.

Other Leave

The Council has a number of methods of assisting employees to balance their work and other commitments. These include varied work patterns including part time or relief working, term-time contracts, annualised hours, compressed working weeks/fortnights, home based working, together with annual, flexi and special leave.
